The fires are still burning

The fires are still burning but the children do not wake
No more will their happy chattering be heard
Silenced by the thunder of implacable might
The love of their parents could not save them
Too fast came the flame, the irresistible heat, no warning no signal
Beyond fighting, only succumbing
Together they lie in the everlasting peace
But taken too soon, our hearts ache, we can only weep.

A very touching and beautifully written poem, Pam. Must have been difficult to write.
